7. Leg Infection & Birthday!

After much debate at work my boss agrees that I can work from home the week after my re excision of my leg. This will give my leg a fighting chance of recovering & I seeing as I can easily sit with a laptop & phone working isn’t a problem – driving however will be.
So on Friday 2nd August the day before my Birthday I have my leg re-excised.
Obviously they do my second back mole first – nothing of any great tale there – cut, stitches, scar number 3!
My leg was a different story – if was infected and contained previous scar tissue -so even putting the local anesthetic in hurt like s**t….& trust me I have a very high pain threshold.
It is also quite surreal watching it happen – I don’t get “faint” at the sight of blood – surgical procedures fascinate me. Yes they are less delightful to watch than the ones on Greys anatomy…and let’s face it (sorry Dr Porter)…the dermatologist involved is no McSteamy.
When you watch your own leg being cut open the thoughts that go through your mind (well ok mine – and granted it is a warped mind!)…are thoughts along the lines of “crap that is a lot of fat”…to giggling at the ticklish sensation that happen when the wound is being zapped or electrocuted to stop the blood flow….I resisted the urge to chastise when he had to re-tie a stitch twice ….but I did praise him afterwards for the neat straight line.
I am sent home avec antibiotics to nip the infection bugs at bay.
Sleeping Friday night was somewhat tricky what with fresh scar on my back & a leg I couldn’t bend at the knee yet!
But it was lovely waking up on my birthday to be spoilt rotten by the dinkies & The Mr…turning 35 (gasp!)isn’t too bad!
My Aunty Alice was coming to spend the weekend & thankfully arrived in great time to join The Mr with preparing food for a birthday BBQ he had planned for the evening – lots of food considering it was only supposed to be us, Alice & my best friend & her family……oh no….The Mr had outdone himself & organised a constant stream of friends from mid afternoon onwards.
& they all ensured that I consumed copious amounts of Red Wine (superfood – see the list!) and just enjoyed hanging out with lovely people until the very early hours of Sunday morning.
Talking of Sunday morning – my leg infection had kicked in so badly (not helped my being numb of pain on the Saturday from alcohol) that I couldn’t stand on my leg when I went to stand up to visit the little girls room….The Mr had to carry me through to use the facilities!!!
Cue a day of rest ahead of our meeting with The Oncologist on Monday – yes he does want to see me!
