86. I’m a C.I.C

I know, I know….there are rules…no acronym’s that need the assistance of a search engine to understand.
I’ve been working on a Melanoma project for coming up to a year now & today the post brought me a little reward.
I am not just “me” anymore….
You see….whilst I am eternally grateful for your amazing readership, for the likes, the shares, the emails of encouragement etc….I am actually just me…just being “Imogen”, or “MelanomaBlog” or “MelanomaRollercoaster” or however you know of me is acceptable for my blog….but in order to achieve this project I have been throwing so much energy into – to do it right – so that it benefits Melanoma patients like me all over the UK I need to be more than that.
That sounds cryptic, but once again as with most things, it boil down to money.
To obtain sponsorship & grants for projects I need to be more official, more professional, and more accountable.
So….with the help of The Mr, a lot of research was undertaken, forms were completed & my application went off.
A couple of nail biting weeks wait later….and the postman delivered a formal letter from Companies House. I have formed a C.I.C. which means a Community Interest Company. (details to follow very soon!)
It’s a specific type of not for profit organisation. Similar to a charity, unlike a charity it doesn’t take donations, but works much more like a company, taking grants or sponsorship and putting them to specific use for a pre-specified community of interest. I think the existing Melanoma & Skin Cancer charities do a fantastic job, no need to replicate models, but rather work together, united for an end goal!
The certificate makes it official & the happy dance in the kitchen a pre-requisite & the bottle of bubbles opened this evening the mini party for 2 before the hard work really starts!!!20151207_201822
