38. Running Challenge!

Do you remember all those times I have mentioned that I joined a running club?
It start as my best friends idea…get fit & tone up. She is such a supporter of mine & knows how important oxygenating my cells is….so getting fit for me is a life line. She had been holding off starting running whilst waiting for me to recover from the various surgeries last year, but we finally joined in January.
20140416_213817The groups 8 week programme was to start slowly & learn all proper techniques for running…gradually building up to running 30 minutes non-stop….which was about 3k…..which we did & we were all so proud of ourselves when we reached that 30 minutes of continuous running!
Since the run club started I became involved with the British Skin Foundation new charity It Takes Seven & I was looking for a way in which I could raise money for Melanoma research.
Then we reached the end of the 8 weeks…..but none of us wanted to stop running!
It is almost inevitable that we would need another target…a goal that much like the 30 minutes mark seems almost impossible when it first enters your mind.
But I am a glutton for punishment…a lunatic…..obsessed….surely any normal sane person who has just had one significant Colonoscopy and is going to have another one in 3 months’ time would not be about to embark on a huge physical challenge…..especially considering in a few weeks’ time I will have a bit more minor surgery to remove the additional moles Oliver Cassell found last week.
Did I ever indicate there was a sane bone in my body????
I mentioned my idea to my friend Fran & at first she thought I had lost my marbles….but gradually it has become an achievable goal…..hard work…..a huge personal challenge…but one that we are extremely motivated to beat!
I am lucky that I get to go running twice a week with my friend…..even more lucky that in the process of running I have made more friends.
We shared our thoughts at run club and soon the 2 of us became 6!
So……on Monday 9th June 2014 my amazing friends Fran Cantillion, Anouska Laming-Mann, Sarah Mann, Daniel Courtney & James Burchfield are going to run the Westonbirt 10K with me.
We have 7 weeks to go and are currently just about managing 6 1/2K.
We are nervous…..we are excited….we are apprehensive…..we are……going to do it!
No matter what medical Melanoma nonsense gets in my way I will be there…on the start line with my friends. We will run. We will run for ourselves…..to be able to say “I ran 10K” – because the personal achievement is so important for all of us individually.
But we will run together….for each other….and for Melanoma.
Please sponsor us….sponsor me.
There is no cure for what I have. There is nothing currently available anywhere in the world that can take this Cancer out of my body. It waits……but I can’t wait…..I am not a sit around waiting for it to beat me kind of girl…..I am going to run….to fight….to raise such vitally needed funds to TRY to find a cure…to find hope.
